The Council of Young Scientists at the Institute of Ecology and Genetics of Microorganisms, the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was created in 1998 for the purpose of unification of scientific young people, expression of their interests in professional field, their involvement to actively participate in scientific-organizing and social activity of the institute.
The Council is the initiator and organizer of regular Interregional conferences of young scientists «Current issues in ecology, microbiology, and immunology» that are carried out under the assistance of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Presidium of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Scientific program of these conferences includes the plenary lectures of key specialists from the Institute of Ecology and Genetics of Microorganisms and Perm State University, holding round-table discussions on topical issues in current biology, and also the visits to scientific subdivisions of the Institute and Regional Specialized Collection of Alkanotrophic Microorganisms.

Distribution of scientific-technical, organizational, and other information on the activities that are carried out for young scientists.
Participation in educational and scientific-research programs for young scientists.
