The essential role of glutathione in bacterial adaptation to extreme environmental factors and its involvement into regulation of a number of stressful genes, and the influence of different redox system activity on glutathione level and redox status inside and outside cells have been determined. Mechanisms being responsible for regulation of extracellular glutathione status have been examined;
It is demonstrated that the principal role in generation of the redox potential surges under the stresses in Escherichia coli play the changes in extracellular low-molecular weight thiols. The acetate accumulation appears to be the rationale of growth inhibition of the high-yield Escherichia coli bacteria cultures.
The investigations of the laboratory staff members are supported by five grants of the Russian Federation Foundation for Basic Research, four grants of the RFBR-Ural, and six grants of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Prokoshev’s two prizes of Perm Region, the prize of Perm Territory in the field of biological sciences, and a medal and a prize for young scientists from the European Academy of Sciences are awarded to the staff members.
