Biography:
1972 – Graduated with honors from the Biological faculty, Perm State University. 1972 – A junior researcher, Institute of Natural Sciences, Perm State University. 1975 – A junior researcher. 1986 – A senior researcher. 1988 to present time – chief of the laboratory of alkanotrophic microorganisms, Institute of Ecology and Genetics of Microorganisms, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. 1996 – A reader and in 1998 a professor, Chair of Microbiology and Immunology, Perm State University. 1982 – Candidate of Science (Biology). 1998 – Doctor of Science (Biology). 2003 – Corresponding member to the Russian Academy of Sciences. 2016 - Academician of RAS.
Scientific interests: Study of biodiversity and functional properties of ecologically significant groups of actinobacteria, and adaptive mechanisms of their survival in anthropogenically disturbed ecosystems for the purpose of their application in nature-like ecobiotechnologies. Isolation of novel strains with high activity of their oxygenase complex; classification and taxonomic description of cultures using the principles of polyphasic taxonomy, and assessment of biotechnological suitability of novel strains. Development of highly effective biocatalysts for the processes of bacterial degradation and targeted transformation of toxicants, and for biosynthesis of pharmacologically active compounds. Collection activities for conservation and expansion of the gene pool of the Regional Specialised Collection of Alkanotrophic Microorganisms (IEGM, UNU/CKP 73559/480868, http://www.iegmcol.ru) that operates in the Ural region and is included in the fund of world culture collections.

A prize of the RF government in the field of science and technology in 2008 (RF Government decision of 10 March 2009, # 221).
